HLM3 calls for stronger country capacities to share knowledge, contribute to global development

On 30-31 March 2016, more than 400 high-level representatives from 66 countries and 11 multilateral institutions gathered in Washington DC for the Third High-Level Meeting on Country-led Knowledge Sharing. Following previous events in Bali/Indonesia in 2012 and Seoul/Korea in 2014, this HLM3 reflected the unprecedented relevance of Knowledge Sharing as an accelerator of global development.

Among key messages (read the HLM3 Communiqué here), participants committed to build stronger capacities of country institutions, such as line ministries and sector agencies, to capture and share their best solutions. Country-led initiatives will be further supported by international partners. In particular multilateral institutions identified numerous opportunities to engage with their clients, for example by embedding Knowledge Sharing capacity in lending operations and multi-year programs related to the Sustainable Development Goals recently adopted by the United Nations.

The HLM3 also constituted the springboard of the new Global Partnership on Knowledge Sharing (GPKS), launched by 25 institutions among governments, multilateral organizations and non-state actors (more info here).
