Cooperation Effectiveness; the South American Chapter Quito, Ecuador

The Organization of American States (OAS), is pleased to announce a sub-regional workshop on cooperation effectiveness, entitled “Cooperation Effectiveness; the South American Chapter” from 23-24 February 2011 in Quito, Ecuador. The event will be co-hosted by the OAS, through the technical secretariat of the Inter American Cooperation Network (CooperaNet), and the Government of Ecuador, through the Technical Secretariat for International Cooperation (SETECI).

The workshop is part of the OAS’ agenda to promote cooperation effectiveness in Latin America and the Caribbean and is designed to inform national authorities about trends and key issues in international discussions and engage them in an exchange of ideas. One of the purposes of the workshop is to promote a more active and better coordinated regional role in international cooperation forums, particularly in view of the Fourth High Level Forum (HLF-4) on Aid Effectiveness to be held in Busan, Korea in late 2011.

Over the past months, the OAS has facilitated regional dialogue on cooperation effectiveness and has helped build momentum in Latin America and the Caribbean to move the cooperation agenda forward with sub-regional workshops in Barbados and Guatemala. The South American workshop in Ecuador will continue to strengthen the region’s voice and serve to obtain conclusions and key recommendations for South America. Having initiated the discussions on cooperation effectiveness in the Americas, the technical secretariat of CooperaNet will continue to bolster cooperation mechanisms in the region by moving towards capacity development and institutional strengthening in the future.
