Inspired by South-South case stories, case studies and the strong spirit of the Bangkok Call that recognized the role and responsibility of academia in supporting Southern leadership at national, regional and global level, Asia case writer Prof. Ifar Subagyo (Indonesia) launched a “Center for South-South Cooperation Studies” at Brawijaya University, Malang, Indonesia in November 14, 2011. Prof Ifar Subagyo was case writer for Asia case study on “Artficial Insemination of Dairy Cattle”.
The launching was attended by scholars and representatives from Le Havre Universite (France), Cooperation Euro Maghreb University (CEMUR) and Africa Asia Scholars Global Network (AASGON) and other university representatives in Indonesia. Key note lectures were given among others by Yves Berthelot, former Secretary General of UNCTAD and Prof. Adrian Kumar from University of Bombay, India.
The launching was held back to back with international conference on The Dynamic of International Exchange for Asia, Africa and Europe: The Challenge for the Education in International Exchanges in a Perspective of Common well-being in a Sustainable World, held also at the Brawijaya University from November 14 to 16, 2011. More than 300 participants from various university around the world such as from Burkina Faso, Marocco, Korea, Ireland, New Zealand, China, Algier, France, Columbia, Thailand, Lebanon, United Kingdom, USA, Netherlands and Nigeria participated in the launching of the Center and international conference.
The launching of the Center for South-South Cooperation Studies was truly an advance and important step in deepening the networking of the Southern academia and in engaging in inter-regional dialogue among Southern academia and with academia from the North.
